Anne Birch – Special Education and ESL
Anne holds licenses in Secondary Education with endorsements in Social Studies, Language Arts, TESOL and Special Education. She will be TMP’s Special Education Teacher and ESL coordinator and has 10 years of experience working with high school students who receive special education support. Anne believes in teaming with students, families and general education teachers to insure that learning is optimized for each and every student. Prior to beginning her teaching career, Anne lived overseas with her family. She graduated from Humboldt State University with a degree in Social Science.
John Bishop – Founder
John Bishop is the Founder of The MASTERS Program. Mr. Bishop is a self-taught accountant and founder of a company engaged in the field of microscopy and nano/micro machining utilizing focused ion beam, scanning electron microscope and high speed laser technologies with a special emphasis on diamond industry and archival applications. Mr. Bishop subscribes to the philosophy that the truly educated never graduate. He has a unique educational background having been individually tutored and working with mentors in all aspects of his education and knowledge throughout his career. He began working immediately after high school.
Debbie Breland – Office Manager
Debbie has had a broad range of experiences in banking and human resources, the most rewarding of which were her years at River Parishes Community College in Louisiana. Along with working with admissions, registrar and academic advisors, she coordinated River Parishes Community College’s concurrent enrollment program with five high schools. Debbie’s husband, Jim, is administrator for Presbyterian Medical Group in Espanola and she has three children – a son in the Air Force in Guam, a daughter who is a high school teacher and counselor and a daughter who is a college senior studying to be a registered nurse. Most dear to her heart are her six grandchildren.
Scott Hauenstein - English Teacher
Scott has an MFA in Creative Writing from Brooklyn College and a BA in Economics from DePauw University. In 2002 he received his Secondary Education License with endorsements in English and Social Studies. Scott has been a high school teacher for eight years. His classroom environment fosters inquiry and collaboration, and encourages students to trust their own opinions and respect the ideas of others. He uses AVID strategies, Costa’s levels of questions, Socratic Seminars and other methods that help students construct their own learning. Scott promotes multiculturalism and open-mindedness while instilling in students the belief that changing the world for the better comes through receiving a quality education.
Lori Miller – Counselor
Lori was Head of Guidance for the past five years at Moriarity High School . Prior to that, she was a Career Counselor at the college level for 3 years. Lori is presently working on her PhD in Educational Psychology at the University of New Mexico and has a Master of Arts in Counseling from Webster University and a Master’s of Education in Human Resource Training and Development from Idaho State University. Her expertise is in career development, counseling and academic advising with a diversity of populations and age ranges. She is a mother of two, a grandmother of one and lives with her companion dog, Lizzy.
Gary Parke – Math Teacher
Gary has teaching experience in Math, Engineering and Building Trades. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering with a degree in Computer Science. After working in that field for some years, he went back to school and received his Secondary Education License with endorsements in Technology Education and Mathematics. He has been a high school math teacher for the past 7 years. Gary has a passion for integrating all of the above mentioned disciplines into his instructional practices, and making learning fun, relevant, and authentic for all students.
Allison Poole – Science Teacher
Allison comes to TMP from the University of Oregon where she is completing her M.Ed in Curriculum and Teaching. She has a Master of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Oregon as well. Allison has served as a Chemistry/Biology Tutor, Graduate Teaching Fellow, Graduate Research Fellow and Lab Assistant. She is driven by the possibility of developing students’ interest in the natural world. She designs curricula that take students to the frontiers of scientific research, crossing multiple learning styles and levels. She has a special interest in reaching students who are underrepresented in science fields.
Anne Salzmann – Head of School
Anne comes to the MASTERS Program after 7 years at Monte del Sol Charter School in Santa Fe, six of those years as Assistant Head Learner and one year as interim head learner. Prior to moving to Santa Fe, Anne was Head of Verde Valley School in Sedona, AZ, an international boarding school. Anne has a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University and has worked in schools all of her life. She is a confirmed southwesterner, loves her dogs and cats and lives with her husband David and son Galen.
Sky Tallman – Social Studies Teacher
Sky graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in History. He recently received his Secondary Education License with an endorsement in Social Studies. Sky is deeply committed to working with youth and helping them to gain knowledge and experience that will empower them as citizens and build the skills needed for success in the 21st century. He has traveled widely through Europe, Asia, New Zealand and the US as a student and teacher. Sky likes to incorporate critical and analytical approaches, logical thinking skills and literacy skills to fully engage in many aspects of life and society.
Zach Taylor – Service Learning Coordinator
Zach was born and raised in Santa Fe. He graduated from Capital High in 1996 and then from Fort Lewis College with a degree in English and Communications. He has taught Literacy, Global Issues and Service Learning throughout his six years of teaching experience in both District and Charter schools. He now holds a MA in Social Justice. He is passionate about reforming education to include community service, leadership education, emotional intelligence and self awareness as part of the core curricula in public schools.
